We are pleased to have the Millenium Sign back in place on Holt Green and looking very smart and the newly refurbished fingerpost at Broomhill which we hope you have noticed! This project was kindly supported by a grant from the Dorset CPRE and will be featured in their social media.
At our June meeting, the Station Commander from Wimborne Fire Station kindly visited to talk about their work, particularly in Holt where we are concerned with wild-fires on Holt Heath which covers a large area of our parish. Please be vigilant, if you spot a fire, dial 999 and ideally use what3words for location. Wimborne Fire Station can also make home visits to offer home safety advice. More information is available from their website www.dwfire.org.uk/fire-station/wimborne
It was a busy meeting which included an update from our Dorset Councillor, Will Chakawhata and a number of visitors joined us regarding various planning applications on the agenda and had the opportunity to make representations.
Cllr Jonathan Cutts updated members on the St Margarets & Stones Almshouses in Wimborne as our Parish Council representative on the board of Trustees. The Charity provides subsidised housing for people in housing need who:
- Have been resident for at least ten years in either the town of Wimborne or the parishes of Pamphill & Shapwick, Holt or the part of Colehill which was the ancient Borough of Wimborne.
- Are of pensionable age (normally).
- Have limited capital and little income.
Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like an application form.
Members have now completed the annual inspection of Holt Cemetery. Please note, the upkeep of a memorial is the responsibility of the owner of the plot. If we have found a memorial to be unstable or in need of attention, a notice will be placed on it or if an immediate danger, it will be laid flat and the owners contacted to arrange for repairs. If you have any questions, please get in touch to discuss.
Finally, a thank you to Stewarts Garden Centre for kindly supplying the lovely bedding plants for both the Furzehill and Broomhill BT Boxes. And thanks to the Holtwood Chapel Community for planting up and looking after the Box at Holtwood!
Holt Parish Council next meets 9th July 2025, 7pm in the Parish Hall.
The Agenda for this meeting will be published online at www.holtparishcouncil.org.uk
Please contact the Clerk if you would like to attend.
