National Trust Management of National Nature Reserve

We have a management plan for the whole NNR, including Holt Wood and Forest, which is directed by the management objectives agreed with Natural England under our Higher-Level Stewardship Scheme with them.

We are currently working on our next phase of halo works on some of the veteran trees within these areas. This is not something to rush into and takes careful surveying and planning, which we are doing this year, before we can then apply to the Forestry Commission for a felling licence to carry out these works.

The ecosystem is very fragile in these incredible woodlands and so this next phase of halo works will be done over a prolonged period of time so as not to shock the trees which would cause more damage.

We have already had several specialists visit the woodlands this year to help us develop the next phase of halo works, once this planning is completed, we will be able to share our thoughts and plans.
